Research has shown how important YOU are to your children and how as a dad the things you do, and keep on doing, really count, whether you live with them, or you are a single dad and are only able see them once a month, once a week or more, what you do really matters. This site is dedicated to all dads but will be of special relevance to the single dad. Remember, you are half the reason your children exist and they need you whether you live with them or not. As their dad, you have what it takes to make their lives successful and fulfilling no matter how often you see them. This site is about all the positive things that we as parents have to offer our children.

A treasure hunt with a difference: try and pack as much stuff into a small match box as possible in ten minutes

This micro-sized treasure hunt is ideal for small flats or rainy days when going outside would be difficult. Running about finding stuff is a great way to kick off a party and because this game is quite a different variant of the normal treasure hunt, you can have both this game and the classic treasure hunt in the same party. It gets everyone running about looking for things, and due to the size restriction, it really gets everyone thinking. (This game also really cool as an extended activity for rainy days, see Micro Treasure Trove). Dadcando has made this into a proper party game using party game booklets, and you can download is here, ready for your party.
. . .
There are five different coloured booklets so that you can split the party up into teams. Each booklet has lines inside so that the teams can write down all the things that they find and put in their matchbox.
Game play
The party guests should be split in to teams (preferably pairs). Each pair (or team) is given a folded up Matchbox Museum game booklet and a small empty matchbox. They decide on a team name and then write this on the front of the booklet in the space provided.
. . .
The teams are told that they have to collect exhibits for a miniature museum, that all their exhibits must fit together inside the matchbox, and then when the time is up they will have to come and lay them out and present them to the other guests for a preview tour of their Matchbox Museum. The teams are then sent out for a set period (say 10 minutes) to find as many things as possible that will all fit together in their matchbox.
. . .
When the time is up and the guests return with their full matchboxes, they each neatly lay out their matchbox contents on a sheet of plain paper and take you on a tour of it (if you want you can download the Display Case, (one for each team)) and use this instead.
. . .
Teams are marked for creativity and originality and, of course for the number of items that they have collected. Collecting 20 items is about average, 40 is excellent, but it all depends on the size of the team and their age.
Important
Make certain that you explain any safety rules beforehand, such as
No going beyond the Garden or
no picking the neighbours flowers or
no going upstairs
for example. If you are organising a party for younger children then you must have enough adults on hand to make sure you can keep an eye on all of them at all times. The winning team is the one with the most points, or you may decide that all teams win.
15 minutes This game should use about 15 minutes of your party time.
The Matchbox Museum printable booklet is available in both A4 and US Letter format. Just click on the one you want below to download. Although all colours of the game will download at once, if you only want a selection, then you can choose this when you come to print them.
