Research has shown how important YOU are to your children and how as a dad the things you do, and keep on doing, really count, whether you live with them, or you are a single dad and are only able see them once a month, once a week or more, what you do really matters. This site is dedicated to all dads but will be of special relevance to the single dad. Remember, you are half the reason your children exist and they need you whether you live with them or not. As their dad, you have what it takes to make their lives successful and fulfilling no matter how often you see them. This site is about all the positive things that we as parents have to offer our children.

Antique Mailing Box

Make a beautiful and authentic, Antique Mailing Box for your dragon’s egg.
ver a hundred years ago, the trade in dragon’s eggs and other artefacts from antiquity was an established Victorian pastime. Gentlemen of wealth throughout the world were obsessed with expeditions to unexplored regions of the world aiming to unlock the “dark interiors” of the great continents of Africa, Asia, the South Americas. Swarthy, sunburned and occasionally nursing minor injuries, larger-than-life adventurers could be heard up and down the land regaling dinner party guests with their stories of tiger hunts, strange beasts and sometimes even encounters with fire breathing dragons.
. . .
However, the only satisfaction for the wonder lust of those unable to travel due to, family ties, business commitments or a lack of available funds, was to engage in correspondence with any one of a number of dubious trading companies from those distant lands; the sort of company who placed advertisements for strange articles of ‘Interest and Curiosity - for Purchase by Post' through small advertisements in the back pages of the National Daily Press.
. . .
For the cost of anything from a few shillings to many hundreds of guineas, a gentleman (or gentlewoman) with a thirst for knowledge could purchase most extraordinary curios from the comfort of their writing table. The only endurance that then had to be overcome, in the acquisition of such articles, was the arduous wait while the precious parcel made its way from one of the Four Corners of the World, by sea (via tramp steamer) or sometimes mule and often steam locomotive to the purchaser's home.
. . .
Now you have a chance to make a beautiful Antique Mailing Box, just like those exciting parcels the Victorians used to receive. It’s a perfect fit for your Dragon’s Eggs, but it could be used for keeping anything in. The Transit label on the front has been left blank for you to carefully fill in all the intriguing details of the contents of your special parcel. If you like the look of this project, then you might also like to have a peak at the Special Delivery Dragons Stamps so that you can make up a whole range of different parcels. . . .
The download comes in both US Letter size and A4. This download gives you everything you need to make the Antique Mailing box, the instructions, a template and the box outer printable. Please note that these are quite large files due to the high quality of the image used. Download only once and print multiple times as needed once downloaded.

Posted by nepenthe - While I used the basic template for the mailing box I created my own wrap-around -- some of the images were printed directly onto the box (some of the stamps) and others were independently created and then glued on (a different transit label that I filled in before printing, altered stamps from 'Lemuria', etc).
I then ran the sheet through the printer again to overlay some different postal marks, so they looked as though they had been actually stamped on by a postal worker.
It took a few attempts getting everything laid out in a desktop publishing program for the printing and re-printing to come out correctly, but I think it turned out well in the end and my daughter loved it... which is what counts!

Posted by AbbieX - I used purple poster board as the base for the print outs of the top and the inside of the box. It made the box stiff. I would prefer to use a slightly thicker poster board type paper in the future. The box came out great.
