Research has shown how important YOU are to your children and how as a dad the things you do, and keep on doing, really count, whether you live with them, or you are a single dad and are only able see them once a month, once a week or more, what you do really matters. This site is dedicated to all dads but will be of special relevance to the single dad. Remember, you are half the reason your children exist and they need you whether you live with them or not. As their dad, you have what it takes to make their lives successful and fulfilling no matter how often you see them. This site is about all the positive things that we as parents have to offer our children.

Dragon Scales

For years we have been making replica dragon scales, now you can make some in a few minutes with these handy instructions
Present them how you like, a fine range of dragon scales such as this is a pleasing addition to anyone's dragonolia collection.
Behind the main building, Barons Manor has a more than acceptable workshop. When the trade in dragon materials and artifacts was banned in the 1930’s, I put the workshop to good use in the manufacture of artificial dragonolia to supply a market still hungry for all things draco. A booming trade developed for all manner of manmade dragonry products, but the most successful of all were our beautiful dragon scales. Over the years we developed a way of growing the scales from a bath of mineral salts. The resultant scales have fooled even the most skilled dragon expert. However, it has never been our intention to sell any products under false pretenses. Every one of our scales carries a manufacturing number that not only identifies the scale as one of ours, but also indicates the batch number, day and hour of creation, so that each scale can be traced to its original day of manufacture.
Each mineral grown scale carries its own Unique Barons Identification Number (UBIN), so that its point of manufacture can be traced. However the number is only visible under a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) at greater than 1000 x magnification. This image was taken at 1300 x magnification. Mineral grown scales are perfect in every way and are still prized as fashion accessories or items of jewellery, (and even have various interesting and secret military uses). Unfortunately, they are also very expensive, at one time rivalling the cost of real pearls. As a result most customers simply cannot afford the wonder of a mineral grown scale. In any case, most customers housing private collections, find that our simpler more cost effective scale making methods produce a more than acceptable artificial scale. . . .
Nevertheless by today’s standards even our quick process is rather longwinded. It involves crushing beetle carapaces into a fine dust by hand, using a mortise and pestle. Bags of the valuable dust are then collected and mixed with a solvent that can dissolve the chitin to create a thick, quick setting liquid that can be cast or moulded into curved sheets ready to be coated in the relevant colour. Unlike authentic or mineral grown dragon scales, those produced by this process are not heatproof, so in order to colour them a cold enamel must be used. The result is still highly attractive and enduring. . . .
Knowing that you may well have problems locating a sufficient supply of beetle carapaces and are unlikely to be able to get hold of the correct solvent, I have had Collinworth draw up some plans that will enable you to make your very own replica dragon scales using materials that can be found in most modern homes. The Dragonry
 |
|

For all those who may think, in their more reckless moments, that it might be easier to steal a golden egg from under the warm belly of a gently sleeping dragon than would be to make one, it might be wise to heed the text of this ancient rhyme...

Here you'll find so much more than dragons; you'll find projects that make it possible to create fantastic stories and games of your own. Every project is totally original and explained with simple illustrated downloads so that you can do the project together or (depending on age) your child can do it on their own, with a little help from you at key stages, and make something that really looks gorgeous.
All the projects are of the highest quality, because quality and attention to detail are very important to children.
So set your imagination alight with our wonderful dragons projects. Follow the story of Kaptin Scarlet, the famous philanthropist, whose 19th Century adventuring to bring back numerous weird and wonderful artifacts was the delight and fascination of civilized Victorian society. His motto, Life is Your Adventure, is as true now as it ever was, and is perfect for kids and dads everywhere, so make it yours and make the most of the time you spend together.
