Research has shown how important YOU are to your children and how as a dad the things you do, and keep on doing, really count, whether you live with them, or you are a single dad and are only able see them once a month, once a week or more, what you do really matters. This site is dedicated to all dads but will be of special relevance to the single dad. Remember, you are half the reason your children exist and they need you whether you live with them or not. As their dad, you have what it takes to make their lives successful and fulfilling no matter how often you see them. This site is about all the positive things that we as parents have to offer our children.

A very simple and lovely little soft toy to make from the film WALL·E
If you loved the film WALL·E as much as we did, then you and the kids will love this simple project to make a soft toy version of EVE the gorgeous little robot that WALL·E falls in love with, when she comes to scan the Earth to see if it can sustain life. You can make a very simple version of EVE without the arms, and if you are struggling without a sewing machine, then you can even make her using glue gun glue instead of sewing. . . .
But then why haven’t you got a sewing machine. If you’re a dad, a sewing machine is still a neat and important bit of kit to have. Sew on your kids buttons, make the odd little repair to their clothes or make their school play costume, all great ways to be a better dad and learn how to use a great bit of gadgetry. Both girls and boys love sewing. They’re not that expensive, but even if you haven’t got a sewing machine or don’t want to get one, you’re bound to know someone that has, so you should be able to borrow one easily. . . .
Now this project also uses a neat trick with the inkjet printer... the fact that you can inkjet print on to fabric. I used a thin white cotton. An old sheet or pillow case is perfect, but you can buy white cotton from a fabric shop really cheaply. Cut out the cotton so that it is a little bit smaller than your paper size (i.e. A4 or US Letter) and then stick it to some light weight card. I used 300 gsm card but anything from about 200 to 350gsm should be fine. Leave one short edge untapped and then holding the card taped edge in to the printer, gently ease it in when the printer starts its print cycle. After the printer has accepted the paper don’t push or pull the card, let the printer do its job. . . .
(NOTE: Print on fabric at your own discretion. The inkjet head does not touch the surface of the printing so it is able to print on fabric without harming the print head, however all printers differ and you do this project at your own risk. I have a standard Epson printer and regularly print on fabric without harming the printer.)
. . .
The instructions are so easy to follow, and the download comes complete with template printables that double up as the sewing pattern when printed directly onto the fabric. The downloadable comes in both US Letter size and A4, just click on the size you need, to download it.

Posted by Wario - I just got around to creating EVE, I admit being a fanboy of hers too. I like the button idea, it allows you not only to remove the arms for the closed look, but allows you to put on the blaster arm if you make one.
I drew and colored the face by hand with permanent marker and felt tip craft markers, I sewed it nearly perfect too, it was extremely fun to make.

Posted by annessa - Instead of a big EVE, this EVE is about 10cm tall and made of felt. Thanks for the tutorial and the pattern. It is so inspirational
