Cautionary Tales For Children
Wonderful witty poems great for reading to your children. The stories and rhymes will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Research has shown how important YOU are to your children and how as a dad the things you do, and keep on doing, really count, whether you live with them, or you are a single dad and are only able see them once a month, once a week or more, what you do really matters. This site is dedicated to all dads but will be of special relevance to the single dad. Remember, you are half the reason your children exist and they need you whether you live with them or not. As their dad, you have what it takes to make their lives successful and fulfilling no matter how often you see them. This site is about all the positive things that we as parents have to offer our children.

Learn the ancient art of egg blowing and then paint beautiful eggs like these

Paint your own pretty eggs

There is something about the fragility of an egg, coupled with its small size and simplicity that has always fascinated artists. The thought of using an egg as a canvas is intriguing. An empty egg feels so light and delicate that it has a strange value all of its own even before you have started applying the paint. And then there's the whole art of blowing an egg; an exciting experiment all of its own. However, once you start painting the egg, you quickly realise that the hardest part for children (and adults) is holding the thing steady while actually painting it. This project shows you how to make a special little holder to make sure that you can easily paint your egg for the best results.
. . . Using good, fluid, bright paints and a nice new thin brush is also important and will make the job so much more satisfying and is therefore well worth the pocket money level of investment in a few tins of good modeler's paint. If you design your egg first using the templates provided here, you can go out together to the craft or art shop, and buy a few little tins of quick drying enamel and a small brush as part of the activity, which together will help give you a beautiful finish.

make your own egg paint holder

You can paint an egg all year round, but people traditionally think about egg painting at Easter.

The word “Easter” comes from the name for the Anglo-Saxon Goddess of spring, Eostre, and wrapped up in a strange little myth is not only an explanation of why we paint eggs at Easter, but also where the Easter Bunny came from. The story goes that one year after winter, when Eostre was creating spring, she came across a young girl in the forest who was crying because she had found a bird frozen to death in the snow. Eostre felt sorry for the girl and so as to make her happy again, she took the frozen bird and breathed life back into it. However, she couldn’t save the little bird's wings, so she changed the bird into a rabbit. Because the rabbit had once been a bird, it never forgot how to lay eggs and from that time every year at the time of Eosturmonath (which was the old Anglo-Saxon word for the month of April) the rabbit would lay eggs in all the bright colours of spring to say thank you to Eostre for saving its life.
. . . Now you don’t have to go looking for a mythical egg laying rabbit to make your Easter (or any time of year for that matter) special with brightly coloured eggs, because you can paint a regular hen's egg yourself. The project has easy to follow instructions on how to blow an egg and then a special template for the egg holder to make painting it easy, plus some egg shapes for you to use when designing your own special Painted Egg. The instructions are available in both A4 and US Letter format.
