Cautionary Tales For Children
Wonderful witty poems great for reading to your children. The stories and rhymes will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Research has shown how important YOU are to your children and how as a dad the things you do, and keep on doing, really count, whether you live with them, or you are a single dad and are only able see them once a month, once a week or more, what you do really matters. This site is dedicated to all dads but will be of special relevance to the single dad. Remember, you are half the reason your children exist and they need you whether you live with them or not. As their dad, you have what it takes to make their lives successful and fulfilling no matter how often you see them. This site is about all the positive things that we as parents have to offer our children.
Secret Box Book

Make this Secret Box Book that looks just like a beautiful antique book; perfect for hiding away all your secrets

antique book with secret compartment

Dragonry illustrated letter Ance upon a time, not so long ago, the trade in dragonsí eggs and other fire-belly related materials was banned. The new laws passed by a Ministry bent on controlling the once lucrative traffic, promised harsh punishments for anyone found in possession of prohibited contraband, but they had little effect. As is often the case, the legislation didnít really stop the sale and transport of the goods, it just pushed it underground. Collectors unwilling to give up their prized dragonolia devised ever cleverer ways of hiding their collections.

One of the most favoured hiding places was the hollowed book. Tucked away in a large library, Secret Box Books (as they became known) provided an excellent and readily accessible hiding place for smallish items of high value. A number of discreet manufacturers sprang up who specialised in making authentic looking Secret Box Books (the manufacture of which was not illegal) that contained hidden compartments capable of concealing anything from a single dragon tooth right up to a large bag of priceless scales.

As long as I can remember, I knew that our library contained a handful of such interesting faux books, however, finding them proved very difficult. The Barons' library holds some ten thousand books so, given that the Secret Box Books were originally designed as they were to avoid detection, over a number of years they remained hidden to even my most concerted searches. It was only when I was 21 years old and my father passed the library papers to me, that the location of our six Secret Box Books was revealed to me. Like a child I ran to the library and had Collinworth pull out each of the volumes.

It was with high hopes that I carefully opened each box, but I was disappointed however, because save a musty smell and the promise of some untold secret, none of the Box Books held anything. Of course in due course, I examined them thoroughly to see if their forme held something other than the physical, such as an enchantment or secret code disguised within the fabric of the books themselves. You will not be surprised to learn that I found nothing. Periodically I scrutinise the books to see if some minuscule clue has escaped my previous endeavours, but none is ever forthcomming. Until I find something and I am able to report my findings to you, I have had Collinworth draw up some plans so that you can make your very own Secret Box Book. The plans are those of one of the larger books that I believe will hold objects as broad and as tall as a sheet of office printer paper. The project also contains printable labels suitable for decorating the book when you have made it, and as usual, for your convenience, both A4 and United States Letter formats are accommodated.

When downloading this file, please be patient, it is a big file at 1.3Mb and may take a few moments to download

IsisOfSun's Secret Box Book
Posted by IsisOfSun - I tried to make mine from cardboard, but it wouldn't bend properly so I cheated a little and bought a paper mache book box. Instead of using wallpaper, I just made a Celtic trinity design from hot glue and a plant on the spine.Spacer
nepenthe's Secret Box Book
Posted by nepenthe - I really wanted to make a monster-type box/book ala Harry Potter, but had hit a wall until I came across the secret box book project, which I used as the base and then went on from there! I used resin teeth pendants for the teeth and hand-sculpted the 'gums' from porcelain clay, which I then painted with several different blue and purple hues before varnishing for a wet look. I scavenged the eyes from my 'miscellaneous craft stuff' box. I still need to finish living the inside of the box.Spacer

The Sign of The Dragonry
For all those who may think, in their more reckless moments, that it might be easier to steal a golden egg from under the warm belly of a gently sleeping dragon than would be to make one, it might be wise to heed the text of this ancient rhyme...

Here you'll find so much more than dragons; you'll find projects that make it possible to create fantastic stories and games of your own.
