Research has shown how important YOU are to your children and how as a dad the things you do, and keep on doing, really count, whether you live with them, or you are a single dad and are only able see them once a month, once a week or more, what you do really matters. This site is dedicated to all dads but will be of special relevance to the single dad. Remember, you are half the reason your children exist and they need you whether you live with them or not. As their dad, you have what it takes to make their lives successful and fulfilling no matter how often you see them. This site is about all the positive things that we as parents have to offer our children.

Victorian Domed Display Case

Make your own authentic looking Victorian display case from a 2ltr soda bottle
When you make something beautiful or bring back a memento from a long adventure, nothing is better than displaying the prized possession, so that you can show it off to anyone who might be interested.
. . .
In Victorian times, elegant withdrawing rooms up and down the land, would be stuffed to the gills with all kinds of knickknacks, seemingly poured out in a rich perfusion of ornaments, collectibles and memorabilia, arranged neatly to cover almost every available surface of the living rooms. The traditional cast iron fireplace was certainly the focal point of any middle class Victorian home and a mantelpiece (more properly called a mantelshelf) without two or three statuettes, a candle holder or two and either a carriage clock or a glass domed display case, usually showing a stuffed bird or small mammal of some kind, would have seemed woefully empty and lacking in character.
. . . Victorian glass domed display cases can be picked up in second hand junk shops (if you're lucky) or more usually at antiques bazaars, but they are fragile and can be expensive, so why not make your own.
. . . This project is the perfect way to display all your most beautiful holiday trinkets and the things that you make. It will keep the dust off them and really show them off in a special way, and the best bit is, that it's a very quick little project, and all you need is some cardboard, a Christmas bauble or something similar and an empty, two litre soda bottle.
. . . Your kids will love it and because the top isn't glued down, just like a real display case, you can lift off the dome and change the displayed object whenever you feel like it. Here you can see that I am displaying a model of Kaptin Scarlet's famous Golden Filigree Dragon's Egg Case, but you could make the case to display anything.
. . . Other related projects you might also consider are,Dragon's filigree Egg Case,
Dragon Journal pages, the Antique Mailing Box, complete with beautiful download wrapping and special old postage stamps, and Egg Stand, which would also be an elegant and simple way to display your Golden Filigree Egg, once you've made it.
Your full, easy to follow How-to-Make a domed display case instructions are available in both A4 and US Letter format PDFs and can be easily downloaded by just clicking on size you want to download.

Posted by pacodoc - such a quick and easy project. I used the bottom of the bottle as the base in the dome. Added some copper tape used for stained glass work along the bottom edge to finish it off. Although it currently houses THE holy grail, it will soon hold whatever treasure my boy decides to put in it.

Posted by mustang2044 - Thought this would be perfect for a Beauty and the Beast theme. Added a Celebration light under the Christmas bulb. Theyre easy to find at department stores in the wedding crafts.

Posted by Lauren - I made the top to look very old by covering the cap with yellow wax, then dripping red candle wax onto the yellow wax letting the soot mingle with the melting wax as well. If you look you can see the dragon embryo that I placed there.

Wizardry and Magic
 |
|
Harry Potter is all done. Of course there are rumours of an eighth book and the fact that we still have two films to go (as the last film will be split into two). It's going to be a long summer, but November will come round soon enough and the bitter sweet joy of seeing another HP film will be tempered by the fact that there is definitely only one more after that. Nevertheless, while you wait, there’s always more than enough magic in the air for you to recreate events at Hogwarts, the Burrow or the Ministry of Magic, by making your own models of Hogwarts wizarding paraphernalia.

Homemade wizard’s wands, Golden Snitches, or beautiful writing quills and loads of other Potteresk things are all here, ready for you to download on dadcando.
Even if you’re just a muggle and have had enough of Harry Potter, there are plenty of other magical fantasy stories to keep you interested in the Magical Art of Making. All the Chronicles of Narnia are all being turned into films, as are the stories of Lyra in the books of His Dark Materials trilogy. Whenever we see interesting things in these films and stories, we will bring you them as best magical fantasy craft projects, so that you can turn your hand to making magic, and conjuring up some really cool stuff to amaze your friends.
Now you can make your very own Victorian Domed glass display case, from a 2 litre soda bottle, to display all your favourite projects and artifacts really beautifully. With our simple instructions, the results of just an afternoon's making will be really cool, good enough to be film props in fact, and better than anything you can buy, because you made it yourself.
Or why not make a beautiful writing quill from either a hippogryph, phoenix or snowy owl feather . And because no quill would be complete without its own ink pot, there are also some easy to follow instructions and printables, for making the most fantastical, magical Ink-pots.
