Cautionary Tales For Children
Wonderful witty poems great for reading to your children. The stories and rhymes will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Research has shown how important YOU are to your children and how as a dad the things you do, and keep on doing, really count, whether you live with them, or you are a single dad and are only able see them once a month, once a week or more, what you do really matters. This site is dedicated to all dads but will be of special relevance to the single dad. Remember, you are half the reason your children exist and they need you whether you live with them or not. As their dad, you have what it takes to make their lives successful and fulfilling no matter how often you see them. This site is about all the positive things that we as parents have to offer our children.
Howl's Moving Castle
A gorgeously animated and beautiful directed film that seems to find a whole new palette of colours from somewhere.

Howl’s Moving Castle (2004)

Hayao Miyazaki

Another wonderful film from the Studio Ghibli. As a grown-up, I found odd bits of the plot didn’t make sense to me, but that paled into complete insignificance against the richness depth and beauty of a film that can hold adults and children of a wide range of ages (my children range from 8 to 19 years old) spellbound for nearly two hours.
. . . At times I was left wondering if the animators had somehow found new colours, from a new magical pallet, to illustrate the scenes. The film itself (slightly wandering plot to one side) is just bursting with creativity and fantasy that puts nearly all mainstream Disney films to shame. And nor are you in for a particular culture shock, the film is set in a Jules Verne-like late 19th Century London (the story was taken from a book written by English fantasy writer Diana Wynne Jones).
. . . The story follows Sophie, a young hat maker, who is turned into an old woman by a curse set upon her by the Wicked Witch of the Waste. Not wanting her friends to see her like she is, Sophie goes away in search of a new life and with the hope of finding a way to break the spell that has prematurely aged her. She walks over the hills and finds herself being invited into the fantastic, walking castle of the youthful local wizard, Howl. Clearly influenced by Wynne Jones’ memories of being evacuated from London just before the Second World War, Sopie finds herself mixed up in intrigue and power play as Howl uses all his magical powers to try and stop the looming war that is threatening to destroy their world.
. . . Unbelievably beautiful animation, exquisite details and delicious dream-like fantasy, served up in a way that is good enough to eat, make Howl’s Moving Castle a real pleasure to watch with your children and certainly a must for any DVD collection.
