Cautionary Tales For Children
Wonderful witty poems great for reading to your children. The stories and rhymes will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Research has shown how important YOU are to your children and how as a dad the things you do, and keep on doing, really count, whether you live with them, or you are a single dad and are only able see them once a month, once a week or more, what you do really matters. This site is dedicated to all dads but will be of special relevance to the single dad. Remember, you are half the reason your children exist and they need you whether you live with them or not. As their dad, you have what it takes to make their lives successful and fulfilling no matter how often you see them. This site is about all the positive things that we as parents have to offer our children.

Comic Strip layout guide
Draw over these templates your make your very own comic strip

Tens of thousands of years ago Stone Age Man scratched picture stories of great hunting expeditions on cave walls. In the Middle Ages, a thousand years ago, artisans wove tapestries to tell the stories of important battles and about 100 years ago the newspaper comic strip became popular. All the things that you see in comics like word balloons dramatic perspective and the use of drawings to show humour were developed by the daily newspapers in their regular daily “comic” strips. Comic books followed quickly as the newspapers reprinted collections of their daily strips all in one place.
... So why not start out making your own comic strip, using these downloadable templates. Print them out and then draw over the light grey boxes in any colour you like and start sketching. Remember:
  • Comic strips often include clever cultural references, so why not slip in a few little details about your life or the people around you,
  • Comic strips usually have a few jokes in them and more often than not have a punch line. See if you can make up a funny story, or practice drawing funny faces,
  • Comic strips often have a little moral woven into the story,
  • Comic strips develop characters who have clear personalities.
One of the best ways to start, is by drawing a character sketch of your main characters and writing next to them what their personalities are. Perhaps one of your characters could be happy but with very bad dress sense, perhaps another could be not very clever but hard working, or another could have an enthusiastic character but have really poor eyesight or not be able to hear very well. A good mix of characters with different personality traits will enable you to make lots of different story lines that build up from your various characters’ personalities and the way they interact while giving you plenty of opportunity to create funny situations.

So what are you waiting for? As you develop your characters and start to make stories for them, who knows you could be creating the next Homer Simpson, Dilbert or Charlie Brown.

Colouring & drawing

Nothing acts as a better window on, and the unhindered expression of, a child's inner most thoughts than their drawings. From a five year old's stick-men to angst-ridden teenage doodles, what you scribble, at any age, says a lot about you.

The skills involved in drawing and painting also help develop a whole range of creative, problem solving abilities in children; so encouraging your kids to draw and paint as much as possible has no downsides.
Dadcando is all about encouraging creativity in all walks of life and especially in that important bond between parents and their children. In this section you will find some lovely colouring and drawing projects, designed to be exciting and presented in a way to help your children develop their own drawing abilities.
