I tried with sugar & failed miserably - it all dissolved. Same again with salt, but the 3rd attempt was excellent - 2 completely different crystals. They won't last long as the girls like to lick them.

Glad you got it working in the end. I had a similar experience, the sugar one took weeks anf one loads of experiments worked brilliantly and the next didn't, I think it must be to do with additives that the manufacturers add to the salt to stop it caking uo in the box.
